The License program is unique to Lampeter and is one of
their most long-standing awards. It is also known as a "Graduate
Certificate". This certificate is conferred upon completion of the third
and final year of the undergraduate Bachelor's degree program in Theology.
Entrance into the License program is restricted to persons
who have already completed a bachelor's degree in another discipline. It is
most often used to prepare graduates of another discipline for post-graduate
work in Theology. The License program, however, also provides a unique
opportunity for students to enrich and broaden the skills and knowledge they
have already acquired in their previous undergraduate study. Credits earned in this
program cannot be applied toward a Bachelor's degree. ]]>

This academic year, Bhaktivedanta College has twenty-seven students from twenty countries. Bhaktivedanta College opened in September 2002 and offers a systematic, accredited education leading to a Bachelor of Theology degree.Experience shows that most of the applicants come from countries with
low incomes. For them, it is difficult and almost impossible to cover
the student fees for tuition and room and board. Therefore we ask you
to kindly consider a scholarship, either full or partial, whatever
amount is within your capacity. Any contribution will be highly
welcomed. Those in need will be grateful to you. ]]>

Bhaktivedanta College, situated in the Radhadesh community, in Belgium, opened in September 2002. Its main purpose is to meet the needs of ISKCON’s members for systematic training and education. Students after graduating can choose where to use their training: directly in Srila Prabhupada’s movement or outside ISKCON yet supporting it in various ways.
The education of devotees at Bhaktivedanta College is yielding quite
tangible results. Big changes can be observed in the students’
behaviour: They become more mature, more focused, and better prepared
for spiritual engagements. Obviously, study combined with the temple
programme is the basis for this wonderful transformation. Six students
graduated in June 2007 and received the first Bachelor of Theology
degrees in our partnership with the University of Wales Lampeter. ]]>

The first Bachelor's degrees in Theology from Bhaktivedanta College were awarded in June 2007. Attesting to the success of the College, 22 devotees from 15 countries applied for the first year of the Ministerial Programme in 2007-08. Fifteen of these candidates are from low-income countries, unable to pay for their expenses, and they are applying forscholarships. We will be really sad if we have to rejectstudent based on their material situation.
By supporting devotees’ studies at the university level, in a
spiritual environment, you contribute to their spiritual
qualificationsas preachers to all levels of society, as Srila
Prabhupada desired. The cost of a full scholarship is 4400 euros,
representing the expenses of a student during one academic year, namely
tuition, accommodation and prasadam. You are also welcome to donate
half or a quarter of the scholarship. The Bhaktivedanta College and
especially the future students thank you from the cores of their hearts!

"This is really the International Society for Krishna Consciousness," I thought when I welcomed the students at the opening of the Bhakti Sastri Course.
The five students come from different parts of the world. Davali Dasa is from Brazil. He is a brahmacari in his twenties, and he enrolled on the advice of his spiritual master.
Bhakta Adam, from
Northern Ireland, returned to Radhadesh after a five-month break; last
year he took the Introductory Course into Krsna Consciousness.
Visvesvara Dasa is of Russian/French descent and has been a resident of
Radhadesh for the last twenty years. He joined the course to learn
more. Vamsi Priya Dasa, a brahmana from Ghana, has been living in
Radhadaesh for about a year and joined the course to prepare himself
for studies at Bhaktivedanta College next year. Bhaktin Helis, from
Estonia, enrolled to deepen her understanding of bhakti-yoga. ]]>

How has the College changed your life during the three years you have been a student?

First and foremost, Bhaktivedanta College has encouraged me to attempt to serve Krishna in ways I thought were not possible for me. I was introduced to complex topics such as the Vedas and the Upanisads, the Sad-darsana, Vaisnava commentaries on the Vedanta-sutra, Western Philosophy, Sociology, and World Religions. All these sharpened my thinking and writing skills.

Sudevi Dasi played Lord Nityananda; Dhira Krsna Das played Hadai Pandit; his wife, Krsna Sakti Dasi, played Padmavati; and Kamala Sundari Dasi, Siddharupa Dasi, and Bhaktin Tina played Lord Nityanandas friends. Bhakta Re'em was the director, and he enlivened the actors. Everybody was happy to see the devotion and joy the actors showed during the performance. After the play everyone in the audience joined in the kirtan and jumped and danced and chanted in transcendental pleasure. ]]>

Bhaktivedanta College is Happy to Begin Offering a Bachelor's
Degree
          For the first time Bhaktivedanta
College is running three years of courses simultaneously, and twenty-six
students from thirteen countries are enrolled (Three students in the Year One
course are from the USA and Canada, and are part of a program sponsored by the
North American GBC and Spiritual Strategic Planning Team to find and support
second- and third-generation devotees to fill an array of important leadership
positions within ISKCON.)

The nine students in the Year Three
course, who are supposed to graduate in June 2007, will receive Bachelors
degrees in Theology from Bhaktivedanta Colleges partner in education, the
University of Wales Lampeter. A Bachelors degree in theology can provide a
devotee great opportunities to effectively preach in academia and in public and
within the Hare Krishna movement. A Bhaktivedanta College education also
contributes to a devotees strengths in becoming a teacher and
manager.
Till recently the field of theology
has been predominated by Christian scholars. The potential now is being given to
devotees to present the illuminating Vaishnava philosophy to society. Educated
devotees can have a positive influence by giving people scholarly explanations
of the world and God.
          By studying at Bhaktivedanta
College, students dramatically enrich their character in three ways: (1) by the
spiritual development that comes from sadhana and from seminars and retreats
given by gurus and senior Vaisnavas; (2) through personal development, pastoral
care, and vocational courses that enable them to better manage themselves and
others in ISKCON; and (3) by deepening their knowledge of theology and related
fields.
          Each year the college students
invigorate the atmosphere of Radhadesh by their enthusiasm and geniality. The
Colleges combined efforts regarding character development and enlightenment in
theology will greatly benefit students and bring the degree-holders high
recognition in different arenas in human society.

          Towards Ideal
Community Care
In late October, 2006, a new and much appreciated seminar
took place at Bhaktivedanta College, facilitated by Haridasa Prabhu (Ph.D. in
Pastoral Care, Loyola University). The seminar addressed many social and
emotional needs of religious communities.
          In the classroom Haridasa radiated
a relaxed, friendly mood. He inspired individual students to invoke a spirit of
pastoral care at the beginning of each daily class by singing, reciting poetry,
or reading prose. This mood achieved special depth when Haridasa recited from
his heart an excerpt from Satsvarupa Dasa Gosvamis poeticized
Prabhupada-lilamrita.
          At the opening session Haridasa
facilitated a discussion that identified the qualities and behaviour typical of
pastoral care. As the sessions continued, their flavours included professional
acumen and academic rigour. There was also ongoing dialogue between Haridasa and
the students, and some mind-opening interactive exercises.
          The last session was special.
Students had been assigned readings from Satsvarupa Dasa Gosvamis Sanatorium, an unconventional novel containing numerous concerns that
Vaishnava practitioners harbour, but rarely discuss.
          One significant result produced by
Haridasas seminar was an upsurge of enthusiastic participation in kirtana. Another was the creation of a more informed student community
and staff, which provides a foundation for building up the standards of personal
care and attention that Bhaktivedanta College wishes to offer. The intention is
that this quality of pastoral care can eventually extend into the Radhadesh
community.

          Handing Down the
Keys
In 2006, the ISKCON leaders of
North America set a precedent, after years of discussions on the future of
ISKCON. They decided to take steps to gradually hand down the keys to the next
generation.
One of those steps took place in September: The Spiritual
Strategic Planning Team (SSPT) and the GBC of North America sent three young
prospects to begin their leadership training at Bhaktivedanta College. The
students were sponsored by Gopal Bhatta Prabhu (Los Angeles).
Anuttama Prabhu, one of the members
of the SSTP: Bhaktivedanta College offers the only higher-education program in
ISKCON that leads to a Bachelor of Theology degree. Its three-track program
(academics, ministerial and vocational training, and introspective and
devotional development) make Bhaktivedanta College a perfect place to prepare
budding leaders.
The students will study here for
one academic year and then travel back to America to start a six-month
mentorship program with key members of ISKCON North America, to get hands-on
experience in congregational development, college outreach, fundraising,
strategic planning, and temple management.
This is the newest initiative from
the SSPT, which hopes to send five more students for the 2007-08 class. SSPT
will encourage others worldwide to take advantage of Bhaktivedanta College to
create similar leadership programs.
So you want to be a
leader?
          Through Web sites and networking,
the SSPT canvassed North America looking for a few young devotees to dedicate
themselves to being trained for leadership. The three who have come to the
College are Anirudha (Vancouver), Malati-manjari Dasi (Washington, D.C.), and
Premanjana (New Talavan, Mississippi). These three all have an optimistic view
of ISKCONs future.
I felt obliged to apply for the
leadership program because ISKCON is my family and the temple is my home,
Anirudha said.
The idea of being able to tale
part in a revolutionary shift in ISKCON is one thing that keeps me going, said
Premanjana.
          All of them agree that
Bhaktivedanta College is an ideal institution for training a new generation of
ISKCON leaders. It offers a supportive, nurturing environment that allows
students to identify their strengths and weaknesses, while developing their
propensities.

          Who Are the College
Staff Members?
          The week-to-week operation of
Bhaktivedanta College requires many services. To familiarize you with the staff
members doing these services to fulfill Srila Prabhupadas mission in the field
of education, we introduce them to you here. Yadunandana Dasa, the College
Principal and Course Director, has been a devotee since 1977. He was born in
Spain in 1963. His involvement in the movement in the field of education for
twenty years inspired him to help establish Bhaktivedanta College. He now does
graduate work in Indic Studies with Lampeter.
          Jaya
Krsna, Aksara, Yadunandana, Mahendra, Nayika, Alakananda, little Mirabai
with her mother, Visakha, and Kristina
Alakananda Dasi was born in Serbia
in 1964. She studied electronic engineering at Belgrad University but stopped
her education in 1986 to become a devotee. She distributed books in former
Yugoslavia for three years and served as a pujari for eleven years. Since 1998,
she has lived in Radhadesh, and in 2002 she joined the staff of Bhaktivedanta
College as the secretary. She also assists in teaching vocational courses and
mentoring ladies.
          Mahendra Dasa, the Assistant Course
Director, also teaches Classical & Medieval Philosophy and Vaishnava
Vedanta. He was born In Bulgaria in 1972. He has practiced Krishna consciousness
since 1989 and served as the ISKCON temple president in Sofia in the mid-1990s
and as the gurukula headmaster in Radhadesh for two years. He holds a B.A. in
Philosophy (Sofia University) and a B.Sc. (Hons. in Information Systems and
Management (London School of Economics). He is now a graduate student in
management at De Monfort University in Leicester.
Aksara Dasa was born in Germany in
1961. After completing engineering studies at the University of Cologne, in
1995, he took up Krishna consciousness. Between 1996 and 2006 he performed all
kinds of services for the Cologne Temple. In September 2006 he began serving at
Bhaktivedanta College as the promotion manager, and he plans to earn a Bachelor
s degree at the College.
Nayika Dasi was born in Hungary in
1978. She studied piano at the Bela Bartok Music Conservatory, but before
completing her studies she joined ISKCON in 1993. Between 1993 and 2001 she
served in Hungary, mainly as a book distributor and pujari. From 2001 she
continued her services in the USA, and since September 2006 she has served at
Bhaktivedanta College as the Membership Secretary. She wishes to earn a
Bachelors degree at the College and teach in ISKCON childrens schools.
          Bhaktin Kristina joined ISKCON in
2004 and soon became a member of the Ljubljana temple dance group. She traveled
around Slovenia for two years, dancing and distributing prasadam. She was also
an assistant at the Bhakti School in Ljubljana. She joined Bhaktivedanta College
in September 2006 as the librarian.
Jaya Krsna Dasa was born in
Switzerland in 1952. He has a Masters degree in business administration and was
a successful manager in various companies. He joined ISKCON in 2003. His
services as the Administrative Director include fundraising and constructing the
first residential building for the College.
Visakha Dasi was born in Germany in
1976 and became a devotee in 1998 in Paris while completing a Masters degree in
European Cultural Management. She served in ISKCON temples in the USA, Austria,
and Germany before coming to do accounting for the College in 2005.

          Final
version College Building

          For Bhaktivedanta College,
constructing a new building is a fundamental next step. The number of students
is growing, and the College needs more accommodations for them. For now, the
necessary housing is provided by Radhadesh, which recently agreed to renovate or
build rooms in the castle.
          Constructing a spacious building
that includes new accommodations, classrooms, and offices will cost almost 1.7
million euros, an amount beyond the reach of the College. But an apartment house
with some offices will cost much less, and this sort of building will fill the
need for the time being.
          So Bhaktivedanta College has
requested permission to build on property owned by the college a house that
will accommodate thirty-four students, teachers, or staff members and provide
four offices.
          Construction should start in March
2007, and the building should open for the beginning of the academic year
2008-09. To finance this building, the College is raising funds. Should you wish
to support our endeavour in the mission of Srila Prabhupada, please contact us.
You can become a patron, finance one room or a complete apartment, or support us
with any amount you wish to contribute.

          Students busy in spiritual activities

Kartika is a wonderful month to
increase loving devotion to Krishna because Srimati Radharani is the merciful
protector of Kartika and spiritual practices count a thousand times more than
usual. So some students took vows to chant more rounds, abstain from sweets, and
serve more than they were used to.
          In addition, students observed an
Ekadasi with an all-night namayajna that started with a recitation of the
Bhagavad-gita.
Students also took part in the
festivals of Govardhana-puja and the appearance anniversary of Radha-kunda.
These were joyfully celebrated with glorifications and krishna-katha, dramas, an
abhisheka, and heart-melting bhajans. Some enthusiastic devotees, under Sudevi
Dasis guidance, constructed a gigantic Govardhana hill in the community hall.
So everyone could make the traditional parikrama, guided by Malati Manjari Dasi.
Opulent prasadam pleased the belly of Govardhana and then was lovingly shared
with the assembled devotees.

When one relishes a taste of
Krishna consciousness, the desire to share it with others naturally awakens.
          Thus many students and community
members traveled to Brussels and Paris to distribute love of Godhead by chanting
the holy names in public. Then on Diwali five students were invited guests at a
celebration in Brussels organised by the Hindu community. Aniruddha, our youngest
student, gave a class; Tina, a first-year student, and Kristina, our librarian,
both from Slovenia, performed an Indian dance; and altogether the students sang
inspiring bhajans. Their activities were well received, and they were invited
back.

Encouraging for meis to see thatnews of the College seems to have gotten out to the ISKCON world. The College is a nice place for young people to come andtake time todeepen their understanding of the philosophy and culture of Krishna consciousness. These young people may be those who have joined a temple and hurriedly taken upservice without a great deal of formal or systematic training; they may be devotees who after many years need to enter a more reflective period of life; orthey maybe the next generation, sons and daughters of our older devotes, sent by their parents, who wish to fill in the gaps in their childrens spiritual education. ]]>

"Bhaktivedanta College offers all its students an opportunity to further their education in scriptural knowledge, and so much growth goes on for each individual. This year we developed good relationships, which helped us get through rough periods. The year was a challenge on many levels, and I saw myself change during the Year One program. I learned so much, and it was not just academic. I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to study here. It was a wonderful experience in many ways, and I will always look back on this year with a smile. It was an experience I will never forget." ]]>

<![CDATA[ The following essays discuss the school year 2002-2003.
End-of-the-Year Appreciation (June 2003) by Bhakta Daniel
To sum up my year at Bhaktivedanta College in one word, it was transformationala process of changeand I grew into someone newer, fresher, and better. In a sense, transformation includes the essence of Krishna consciousness: changing the heart from a conditioned state to a naturally pure and vibrant one. In this respect, my year at Bhaktivedanta College has been ideal. Every experience in the College in some way transformed me.
All facility was provided by the College in every way possible. Additionally, the College gave me a strong foundation to go ahead in various arenas of life. Thanks to this facility and strong foundation, the process of transformation should have sufficient resources to continue functioning outside this environment.
I envision this College as a great initiative with immense potential to assist all devotees seeking transformation. I found every aspect of the College accentuated with great professionalism. The unmotivated and non-procedural care and devotion that the staff, teachers, and students radiated for one another has wonderfully complemented the professionalism, which on its own would be parched. If the College continues to progress in these ways, the College will be an essential, long-term investment in the lives of devotees, who are the most valuable asset of our society.
If devotees are transformed by being educated and nicely taken care of, they will shine like jewels. I see so many jewels around me about to leave Bhaktivedanta College. To me, it seems that such jewelseducated and cared-for devoteeswill be the new and rising emblems of the future world, be it in their own small, spider-like way or in a bigger, revolutionary fashion. Either way, they will be exemplary personalities. I cant help but reflect upon how fantastic a world composed of such jewels will be.
I am indebted to all the wonderful guides and teachers who blessed us at Bhaktivedanta College. They kindly shared their hearts and wisdom with us. They have all been models in their own unique ways. I also would like to thank the College leadership, trustees, and staff for making the College possible by their revolutionary desires and endeavours. Lastly, I must express my immensely colossal gratitude to all the students, who made the College a reality. Without their association, the transformation would not have begun. The Practice of Studying at Bhaktivedanta College (June 2003) by Jaya Govinda Dasa
In a purport Srila Prabhupada comments on the term svadhyayabhyasanam thus: There is a limitless stock of Vedic literature, and one should study this. This is called penance of speech. Was my experience at Bhaktivedanta College a penance? Yes, it was. But what this means to me, let me unfold.
Penance is zealous, intense, and faithful dedication to duties in Krishna consciousness. It includes cleansing the heart by repentance, developing a genuine aversion to material life, and developing a higher taste for devotional service. My duties during the school year were studying and attending classes.
Guided by the teachers, I could apply my God-given intelligence to the subjects. They kindly presented subjects with competence and deep, personal realization. This facilitated my seeing my inner reality through eyes of knowledge. Each course challenged me, and I was forced to manage my life in the uncomfortable realm called the stretching zone. The term stretch became the epitome of my learning experiences, and I dare say, the maha-vakhya for gaining access to higher dimensions. This impacted my life physically, mentally, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. Sometimes I over-stretched and reached the boundaries of panic and anxiety while trying to stay on track with my psycho-physical maintenance, the tight course schedule, inter-personal relationships, and sadhana.
One major element of my svadhyaya (literary: using intelligence to meditate on the self) was maybe self-analysislooking into my heart to identify doubts or improper attitudes and tendencies. I paid close attention to these because character development (humility, forgiveness, and compassion) was one of my main expectations in attending the College. This was humbling and sometimes painful, but necessary and worth the attention. I learned a lot from that. I made many steps forward, inward, and toward knowing myself and my relationship with guru and Krishna, with the support of the devotees, my prabhus.
One result of such svadhyaya was gaining hope against hope. Despite my shortcomings, I am confident about my future. There are many needs and responsibilities and services in Srila Prabhupadas mission. I see these as opportunities, as part of the on-going learning process I started at the College. I know I can count on the support of the College and my fellow students. I also feel strongly encouraged and supported by my spiritual masters desire that I return to my prabhu-datta-desh and share with others what I learned at the College.
The education I received is a special gift: the gift of knowledge, skills, realizations, and genuine care and affection. I consider these gifts as powerful, useful tools that I am going to responsibly implement in my life, whatever I am, whatever function I may have, wherever I may be. They are matchless gifts, and they fulfilled another major expectation I had in learning ministerial skills.
Penance now includes looking to the future. This brings up mixed sentiments for me and my fellow students. I anticipate meeting my friends again in Italy after a year of separation. But these feelings are quite at odds with the feeling of separation from my newer, close friends in Radhadesh, especially the other students. At the College we developed considerable team spirit and loving and trusting relationships. Recently, I received a letter from one of our teachers, who confessed, Honestly, based on my experience, I don't know how all the students of the college will ever be able to part company. It was difficult for me after being there for only a week. I do not know either, but the good association with like-minded devotees that I had here is the very special gift I never expected. And now is the time to honor it with more maturity, in separation.
So now it is necessary to clarify my expectations of myself and what others expect of me, and to plan future steps. We have reached the end of a beginning. Its time to start a new chapter. Considering my experience at the College and the way I lived, I cannot help but think of Brahmas experience in preparing to create. He did long penance for the universal benefit of all. So did I. I had confidence and happily accepted the process of studying at Bhaktivedanta College. Although my experience presented to me some minor and even major shortcomings, I now feel purified, content, prepared, and more empowered to contribute some progressive service in Krishna consciousness for the benefit of all. May all of you readers bless me so that I will not become a victim of pride.
An Eternal Student (June 2003) by Nrtya Kisori Dasi
Srila Prabhupada spent a lifetime in preparation before accomplishing his Guru Maharajas mission. I feel that I received a preparation for a lifetime in the College . . .
With the knowledge, skills, and values I obtained this year, I believe that I am equipped for many years of service in Srila Prabhupadas mission, and, above all, for an on-going process of learning and improvement.
The systematic training and education I received, guided by most qualified and wonderful devotees (whom I felt highly honored to meet and learn from), was useful and beneficial. The learning process itself had value, what to speak of the contents.
What else may I hope for than to become an eternal student? It was a taste for learning and an openness to exploring unknown fields that were greatly enhanced throughout the year. Undoubtedly I will cherish these and carry them with me wherever I go.
Shall I be more specific? Well, in a previous appreciation, I already gave a description of the courses we had during our first trimester, so now I can tell a bit more about the rest:
The Interfaith course, by Yadunandana Prabhu, was exceptional. We took two field-trips to visit adherents of other religions.
We had a most wonderful time with Radhika Raman Prabhu in the Introductory Sanskrit course. His pronunciation is perfect (ours a little less), and he charmed our hearts with his shining expertise and good qualities. He surprised us at the end with a simple exam and manifested his generosity with the marks.
Sacinandana Swami guided us through two retreats (on the holy name and saranagati). The nectarean ocean is ever-increasing!
The Western Philosophy course is unforgettable: a detailed history of ideas from over two thousand years in less than two weeks. By the grace and professionalism of Ravindra Svarupa Prabhu and Jan Olof Prabhu we did it. Later came our turn to sum up this knowledge in an essay. (We wrote this essay and all others under the devoted, editorial guidance of Tattvavit Prabhu, to whom I am indebted.
A talented Vaisnava named Kartamasa Prabhu took us into Sociological theory, right into the juicy topics of our Krsna consciousness movement and lives. He expertly selected matching bhajans for each days topics and sang them with melodious sweetness. He assigned an enjoyable research project, letting us choose the topic according to our hearts desires.
Right from Oxford University came Krsna-ksetra Prabhu. His two courses, Vaisnava Theology and Comparative Religion, were a celebration to the heart and ear. Every day he brought a different surprise, a new challenge. He made us take a second look at things. He, too, let us select our essay topic.
The most expert of teachers, Rasamandala Prabhu, had a come-back with Teacher Training II. In his classes, you wonder: Is this theater? Its like a captivating professional performance. With unlimited encouragement, he kept us engaged all the while, especially during our final presentations.
Another come-back, this one from America, was Anuttama Prabhus. This time he was accompanied by Hanuman Prabhu. This jolly couple showered us with mercy, but also with plenty of tools for Management and Leadership.
Next came an acarya of Ethics, Sesa Prabhu. You will not find a more befitting way of learning ethics. His exemplary character and gentle heart fascinated us. He left us with a short exam and strong feelings of separation.
Bhakti Vaibhava, taught throughout the year by Yadunandana Prabhu, remained our constant way of quenching our thirst, and his Bhakti-sastri Teacher Training Course proved useful.
Finally, Vraja-lila Prabhvi (along with our old friend and assistant teacher from the Counseling course, Kaunteya Prabhu) taught us to transcend conflicts. Mediation turned to be a hidden talent of many of the students, and many issues were solved.
In whatever way I can, I wish to remain connected to Bhaktivedanta College and the devotees involved. In my little way I will try to repay my debts, though I know that for such great fortunes, one remains indebted eternally.
A Ten-Month Festival (June 2003) by Vrindadevi Dasi
This school year was incredibly enlightening and enlivening. Like a rich feast, it turned out to be intense, and probably I will be digesting and applying what I gained for the rest of my life.
The academic courses and the essay writing broadened and deepened my knowledge. Many things got new names in my understanding: for instance, ISKCON, Gaudiya-Vaisnavism, and Veda. It helped me to look at ISKCONs legacy in the broader context of Indian and Western philosophy, and from sociological and interfaith points of view. Taking different angles and critically evaluating Krishna consciousness, I came to own my identity as a child of ISKCON. Much of the world lacks the conclusive Krishna conscious philosophy, and this means that I have a lot to share with a wide range of audiences. During this training period I gained confidence, courage, and the tools to become more active and effective. One thing is for sure: I always want to remain a trainee.
Especially in the more skills-oriented courses, I began to explore my vocational options within ISKCON and society at large. To me, it seems only reasonable now that Krishna consciousness can and should be extended to all fields of academic, social, and personal life. This conclusion makes me so happy because I feel in tune with the vision and mission of my Guru Maharaja and Srila Prabhupada.
Now I will invest at least a year to help the College develop, and later I want to take more systematic education (especially in sastra, communications, and perhaps the arts) and eventually teach in ISKCON colleges worldwide. I have always had an inclination to teach and care for people. What is new to me is that I also want to be responsive to peoples needs, interests, and concerns. This is honest leadership. It is confronting and implies constant transformation of the false ego, e.g. the desire to be onstage, to look good, and to be useful or influential.
By my attending all the devotional programs, selfless dedication has become a very essential goal for me. I feel intrigued and alarmed at the same time. It gave me sleepless nights to contemplate the radiant devotion of our teachers. They are living bhagavatas, and I really want to follow them to implement the principles of the Bhagavatam in my own and others lives. Yet the gigantic need for purification of my heart made me hide away in fear many times. I felt honestly grateful, though, whenever I came into a heartening process or broke into tears, and so on. This was facilitated by the loving and trusting ethos of the students and the teachers, who all became a reliable source of spiritual, social, and emotional strength to me.
My conclusion is that Vaishnava relationships and personal Vaishnava training enables individual potentials to flourish. For the benefit of all restless and helpless souls, I pray that the Bhaktivedanta College project will eventually bring Srila Prabhupadas message of peace and good will to society at large. ]]>

What was it like teaching Western philosophy? And why teach it to devotees?
I was impressed by the students clarity of mind, enthusiasm, and critical approach. The course aims at enhancing their spiritual awareness, by nurturing a deep conviction, rooted in honest, thorough, and challenging inquiry. The students have already been trained in this approach, and their participation was effortless and rewarding to me. For devotees, studying Western philosophy strengthens our faith in the Vaishnava tradition by raising our awareness of the important questions philosophers ask concerning epistemological, metaphysical, and moral issues, which are relevant to everyone in every society. ]]>

For the smooth running of the college courses (and to accommodate students and staff) Bhaktivedanta College currently utilizes facilities of the Radhadesh community. However, a new building is required to properly accommodate the growing numbers of students. The architectural proposal for the new college building is pictured below.

The building includes:

5 classrooms

library

21 students rooms (with 2-3 beds each)

4 rooms for teachers

3 rooms for staff members

common rooms for ladies and men

sauna and gym

Investment: 1,700,000

By supporting the new Bhaktivedanta Colleges new building you would:

enable Vaishnava devotees to attend a Krishna conscious college and complete their studies with a Religious Studies degree accredited by the University of Wales, Lampeter;

help ISKCON members become systematically educated so that they can teach others

help future leaders and managers of the Hare Krishna movement receive vocational training

make an major contribution to an important international educational initiative

Bhaktivedanta College, situated in Radhadesh, can serve as a model for further colleges around the world. To start with, the idea is to open a Bhaktivedanta College in Mayapur (ISKCONs world headquarters in Bengal, India) and later in the USA. ]]>

"Introduction to Sanskrit", which runs two weeks, is one of the College's academic courses and is accredited by University of Wales, Lampeter. Within the two weeks, Radhika Ramana imparts a basic understanding of the purpose of Sanskrit study and the structure and scope of the language. Students memorize the oral alphabet, as well as the Devanagari characters and several verse metres. Thus by the completion of the course, they can carefully find their way through simple Sanskrit texts. ]]>
